About this Speaker
A graduate in monetary and financial economics of Bocconi University, Milan, Aldo started his career at Commerzbank AG, Frankfurt, and subsequently joined EIB, the largest multilateral issuer, as assistant to the Deputy Director General of Finance and then as Deputy Head of Funding, Euro. He began to integrate social responsibility into EIB’s funding strategy in 2007, shaping EIB’s first Climate Awareness Bond, the world’s first green bond. He structured the upgrade of CAB-administration in 2014, coordinated the IFI- and GBP- working groups on green bond impact reporting harmonization in 2015 and 2016, managed KPMG’s first CAB-audit (reasonable assurance) in 2016. In 2017-18, he coordinated the EIB-team that co-authored two White Papers on the Need for a Common Language in Green Finance with the China Green Finance Committee. These documents supported EIB’s proposals on taxonomy and green bond standard in EC’s High-Level and Technical Expert Groups (where Aldo was member of the subgroup on EU Green Bond Standard) as well as within the Green Bond Principles (where Aldo chaired the working group on Green Projects Eligibility in 2018/19). The Sustainability Funding team was created in 2018 following the announcement of the EU Action Plan on Financing Sustainable Growth. In the same year, the team launched EIB’s first Sustainability Awareness Bond, extending the CAB-approach from Climate Change Mitigation to other areas of environmental and social sustainability. Under Aldo’s impulse EIB has been the first issuer (2018) to tune the documentation of its Sustainability Funding instruments to the EU Taxonomy Regulation which entered into force in July 2020.
